Using the Online Help in Network Associate's Sniffer Pro

Q: "When I use Network Associates' SnifferPro, I see a LOT of different symptoms and diagnosis! How can I begin to understand what each symptom and diagnosis means?"

A: The Sniffer Network Analyzer has many different messages that can be displayed under the symptoms or diagnosis column. Each message is documented in the Sniffer manuals, but it's the on-line Sniffer Help that assists with real-time analysis!

To view the on-line help,highlight one of the symptoms or diagnosis, and select the Objects tab (or double click on the symptom or diagnosis). In the following screen-shot, the 'Broadcast/Multicast Storm' symptom is highlighted.

The Objects display will show the statistics that are specific to the symptom or diagnosis, and a question mark button will be displayed to the far right of the symptom name.

Pressing the question mark button opens the context-sensitive Expert Explain file.This Windows help file will give an explanation of the Expert symptom or diagnosis, and will provide possible causes of the network inefficiency. Although not every cause can be listed for every Expert symptom or diagnosis, the causes listed should help provide the network troubleshooter with a general direction for attacking the problem.
